About Landscape Edging

Steel, aluminum and plastic edging to define beds and contain stone or mulch.

Great landscaping is in the finishing. Edging keeps stone and mulch where it belongs, landscape fabric stops weeds before they start, polymeric sand locks paver joints against ants and washout, and sealers protect and bond your hardscape.

We stock steel, aluminum and plastic edging, woven landscape fabric, polymeric jointing sand, construction adhesive and paver/stone sealers. Tell us what you are building and we will match the right accessories to your materials.

Questions about Landscape Edging

What do I need to finish a paver or stone project properly?

The finishing materials are what make a job last: edge restraint or bed edging to hold the field, woven landscape fabric under stone, polymeric sand locked into the paver joints, construction adhesive for caps and steps, and sealer if you want to hold the colour and resist stains.

What edging should I use — steel, aluminum, or plastic?

Steel edging gives the cleanest, sharpest bed line and holds a curve beautifully; aluminum does the same without rusting and is lighter to work with. Plastic paver edging is the budget option and is best hidden under the surface at a paver perimeter rather than used as a visible bed line.

Do I need landscape fabric under mulch or stone?

Under stone, yes — fabric keeps the rock from working down into the soil and cuts weeding for years. Under mulch it is optional, since mulch is meant to break down and feed the bed. Either way use woven fabric, never plastic sheeting, which traps water and shreds within a couple of seasons.

When should I use polymeric sand instead of regular sand?

Use polymeric sand in the joints of any finished paver surface — it sets up firm, resists washouts and ants, and slows weed growth between stones. Keep plain washed sand for the bedding course underneath. Sweep polymeric in dry, compact, then mist in light passes so it does not haze the paver faces.
