About Crushed Limestone
Crushed limestone is an angular aggregate used to prepare a firm surface for driveways, walkways, patios and other hardscape projects. Unlike rounded decorative gravel, its particles can be compacted as part of a properly built base.
The right grade, base depth and installation method depend on the load, soil and drainage conditions. Ask our team which limestone product is currently available for your project before ordering. Limestone alone does not correct a drainage or grading problem.
Questions about Crushed Limestone
What is crushed limestone used for?
It is commonly chosen for driveway and walkway preparation and for the compacted base beneath patios or pavers. The finished build still needs suitable excavation, compaction and drainage for the site.
How is it different from pea gravel?
Crushed limestone is angular and suited to a compacted base. Pea gravel is rounded, stays looser and is generally chosen for a decorative surface in a contained area.
Can I use washed sand instead of limestone for the whole base?
Washed sand and crushed limestone serve different roles in a hardscape build. Sand may be specified as a bedding or levelling layer, but it should not be assumed to replace a compactable aggregate base. Follow the design for your project.
How much should I order?
Measure the area and confirm the specified compacted depth. For a preliminary volume in cubic yards, multiply length × width in feet by depth in inches, then divide by 324. Ask about the appropriate allowance for compaction and uneven ground before placing an order.
